The arctic temperatures and snow heading to the region over the next few weeks have few thrilled to head outdoors — unless you’re an ice fisherman.

Georgetown Fish and Game Club will hold an ice fishing derby on Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 1, for the young and old alike who are tempted to catch the up to six-and-a-half pounders lying dormant under the icy waters in Pentucket Pond.

“I’ve fished in the summer, I’ve deep sea fished but I’ve never ice fished. But after seeing the photos from the last event I’m excited to try it,” said club member Tom Simmons, who is organizing the derby.
